SoFAR: An Agent Framework for Distributed Information Management
نویسندگان
چکیده
SoFAR, the Southampton Framework for Agent Research, is a versatile multi-agent framework designed for Distributed Information Management tasks. SoFAR embraces the notion of proactivity as the opportunistic reuse of the services provided by other agents, and provides the means to enable agents to locate suitable service providers. The contribution of SoFAR is to combine ideas from the distributed computing community with the performative-based communications used in other agent systems: communications in SoFAR are based on the startpoint/endpoint paradigm, a powerful abstraction that can be mapped onto multiple communication layers. SoFAR also adopts an XML-based declarative approach for specifying ontologies and agents, providing a clear separation with their implementation. We explain the rationale behind our design decisions; we describe two distributed information management applications and we recount their design and operations.

In order to build an open, large-s ale and inter-operable multi-agent system in the ontext of Grid omputing, we are looking at integrating agents te hnologies with Web Servi es. In this paper, we address this on ern for SoFAR, the Southampton Framework for Agent Resear h. We fo us on all te hni al aspe ts of reating, deploying, and publishing agents as Web Servi es. We have designed an agent-based peer-to-peer resource discovery system, which combines a set of original features. We distinguish synchronous and asynchronous searches, and structure them in terms of speech acts in an agent communication language. We rely on a distributed reference counting counting mechanism to detect the termination of asynchronous distributed searches. Ontologies are used to...

In knowledge-based economy, knowledge has a public good and non-rivalry nature. Firms build their own knowledge stock not only by means of internal R&D and collaboration with partners, but also by means of previously spilled over knowledge of other firms and public research laboratories (such as universities). Firms based on their absorptive capacity, and level of intra-industry and extra-indus...

Cloud computing is a new discussion in enterprise IT. It has already become popular in terms of distributed technology in some companies. It enables managers to setup and run the intended businesses by avoiding excessive spending on computers, software and hiring expert staff, which proves to be cost effective. Cloud computing also helps users pay for the IT services without spending massive am...
